(ENGLISH TRANSLATION)
The Skillful Barber (L'Adroit Barbier) lithographed & hand tinted by
a noted French artist Louis Leopold Boilly 1761-1845. Boilly was well
noted for his era, considered a pioneer in stone lithography methods
& a gifted creator of portrait paintings, he did just under 5,000
portraits. This image The Skillful Barber was from his 1823 Collection
of Grimaces, a social satire of common folk in grouped portraits, just
everyday situations with humored expressions noted in each image.
Original was Published by the well regarded Francois-Seraphin Delpech,
Paris. This sign pays tribute to a legendary & little known artist.
